WARNING DISTRESSING CONTENT: A man was brutally killed and paraded through the streets by a vigilante mob, after being accused of raping a disabled woman in Gowa, Indonesia
A man has been savagely murdered by a village mob, who mutilated his body and dragged his corpse through the streets after accusing him of raping a disabled woman.
The 47-year-old man, known as Ali, was hunted down by enraged locals for allegedly sexually assaulting the woman in Gowa, Indonesia, on November 30. The alleged victim was found severely beaten and traumatised, igniting outrage throughout the community.
Ali took shelter at a relative’s house before escaping into nearby woodland to avoid the villagers’ vengeance, local media reported. But he was caught on December 3 when he emerged from the forest looking for food
Onlookers immediately recognised the man, reportedly notorious for regularly terrorising the area with thefts, and proceeded to lynch him using sticks, stones, and machetes.
Shocking footage shows the mob brutally attacking Ali, whose hands and feet were tied with rope, whilst hundreds marched through villages with their smartphones raised.
It is reported that the vigilantes horrifically “chopped up” his genitals before parading his lifeless body past houses. A convoy of motorcycles was seen hauling his body along a road as residents cheered.
Senior Adjunct Commissioner Muhammad Aldy Sulaeman, Chief of Gowa Police, confirmed that officers raced to Rappolemba Village to control the locals, reports the Express.
He said: “We can confirm that several videos have circulated regarding an alleged assault against an individual. In relation to this incident, we have liaised with the Tompobulu Police. Based on the reports we received, the situation at the location is now under control.
“We don’t want to underestimate the situation, and we are making checks and increasing security measures to keep the situation under control.
“The initial information we received indicates that the person concerned was suspected of rape. However, we will continue to investigate this matter to determine the exact chronology of events.
“The personnel involved include the Gowa Police’s medical team for the post-mortem examination, the Samapta Unit, the Criminal Investigation Unit, the Intelligence Unit, and the Community Policing Unit, accompanied by the local police chief. We have also coordinated with the South Sulawesi Regional Police Department.”
Residents also claimed Ali was a burglar who had previously been imprisoned and had only recently been freed.
Village resident Enal said: “Residents had been looking for Ali after committing this heinous act against a disabled woman. He hid in one of his relatives’ homes, then moved to a forest area in Rappolemba village.”
